UPDATE: Page 1 of prologue is here!

Water Wolves_Prologue page 1 by LuckyStarhun

I can't believe it I have drawn a cover... Before you watch me for the thousanth canine comic on DA I let you know you will have to wait for this. I barely have time so it took me like a week or so to finish it. (I don't want to disappoint my watchers and I wouldn't want you to go like 'When you will post the pages?' so no such questions please. I cannot promise anything because I have to draw and paint a lot for school and this is last of priority.) I am quite happy with this cover but I think I won't use this paper for complicated artworks because it's just not good.

I am quite proud of the design of the main character Marina (to the left), it is one of the few I made myself. The other one to the right was designed by :iconiceriftfyera: :)

I should be back to my homework, I guess...

You've got a great way of laying out you pages, so that the panels are never boring, and your colouring is very nice. The layered pencil crayons and darker characters against lighter backgrounds makes it easy to tell what's going on action-wise. The story itself seems a little rushed...you go from important panel to important panel, but that leaves little time for the reader to digest each thing that's happening, and takes weight away from the emotions. As an example, Grigio calls the island 'mother island', which would make it seem as though he's been here a long while, and that the place is 'home' to him, not just a place he's passing through, but he sees red algae in the water and there's no pause for reminiscence, no moment of silence for memory or emotion, just instant 'welp, time to go!'. In just a few pages we get slammed with detail after detail, some of them pretty heavy and deserving of a moment for consideration, but no time is given. "Moms dying, I'll call for help, mom says no one CAN help, now she's dead! Now this sort-of friend is here but oop! He cant help because moms dead and wait where are you going oh whats that you're leaving? I'll come with you!" I know the temptation to get to the important parts, especially when it takes so long to draw everything, and it seems so pointless to have a bunch of pages where nothing is actually happening, furthering the story, but those slow, quiet moments of emotion can really drive home the seriousness of a situation, make it feel so much more important. Jumping from important moment to important moment makes it feel rushed and almost comical, with no time for me to absorb whats happening and no time for the characters to show their reactions and feelings.

The story itself is interesting so far, and the art is good, but it feels rushed and difficult to get immersed in. Maybe taking some more time to show the slow moments, the grief, the nostalgia, would make the comic as a whole feel a lot stronger.
